Founded in 1753, Hampden Estate is one of Jamaica’s oldest and most storied distilleries, renowned for producing some of the world’s most aromatic and characterful high-ester rums. Based in the Trelawny Parish, often described as the grand cru of Jamaican rum, Hampden continues to distil rum using traditional double retort pot stills, natural wild fermentation, and centuries-old methods that define its unmistakably intense profile. Since 2010, the distillery has aged its rum entirely on site in Jamaica’s tropical climate, deepening complexity and accelerating maturation. This Hampden LROK 2021 Single Cask is a Singapore exclusive, selected for La Maison du Whisky Asia-Pacific, and comes from a small experimental series of ex-Sherry casks sourced from Bodegas Fundador. Each cask was used to mature different marks and vintages, creating a rare opportunity to explore the interplay between Hampden’s iconic LROK mark (Light Rum Owen Kelly, medium eester) and the deep, oxidative influence of sherry wood. Aged for four years under 100% tropical conditions in Trelawny, this bottling highlights a remarkably elegant side of Hampden, where vibrant esters meet rich, warm sherry notes.
