Aberfeldy 28 Years Old Limited Release is a well-matured single malt from Aberfeldy, introduced in 2016, as a travel retail exclusive. The whisky is mellow, rich, fruity and honeyed. The distillery was founded in 1896 by John and Thomas Dewar, sons of John Dewar & Sons founder John Dewar Sr. The building was designed by the famous distillery architect Charles Doig. It is conveniently located near an excellent water source the Pitilie Burn. That was until the 1960s, when they had a private railway directly to Perth, where the distillery blended and bottled its whisky. The distillery temporarily closed during both World Wars, due to a shortage of barley. Aberfeldy underwent a large renovation in 1972, and was equipped with new steam-heated stills. Aberfeldy’s production is mainly used in Dewar’s Blended Scotch, which was already a highly successful brand when the distillery was built.
