This Christian Drouin Pommeau de Normandie, bottled in 2025, is the result of a long and patient ageing journey rarely seen for the appellation. Produced by blending apple must pressed in 2003 with a one-year-old Calvados, it was then matured for many years in oak casks beneath the slate roof of a traditional Norman timber-framed building. Subjected to significant natural temperature variations, the Pommeau slowly concentrated, developing remarkable depth and a distinctive rancio-driven aromatic profile, combining richness, oxidative complexity and elegant fruit sweetness. The Christian Drouin house is one of the most revered names in Calvados, particularly within Calvados Pays d’Auge. Established in 1991 in Coudray-Rabut near Pont-l’Évêque, on a former stud farm, the estate remains family-run across three generations. Renowned for holding one of the most comprehensive collections of old Calvados vintages—some dating back to 1939—Christian Drouin is widely regarded as a benchmark producer, often compared to Gordon & MacPhail in the whisky world. Its cellar masters have received numerous international accolades for their expertise in long ageing and blending.
