Appleton Estate 18 Years Old Hearts Collection 2003 is a 100% pot still rum from the Appleton Estate in Jamaica, released as part of the Hearts Collection, a collaboration between Appleton’s Master Blender Joy Spence and Velier CEO Luca Gargano. The rum was distilled in 2003 and aged for 18 years. 5000 bottles were drawn from casks #420930 through #420950 in 2021. The Jamaican Appleton Estate is one of the oldest rum producers in the world. The estate’s sugar plantations were already in operation in the 1600s and the company has been producing rum continuously since 1749. The Appleton Estate has been in the hands of J. Wray and Nephew since 1916, which became a subsidiary of the Campari Group in 2012. The estate comprises 11,500 acres of sugarcane and produces about 10 million litres of rum each year. Appleton’s Master Blender is Joy Spence, who became the first female Master Blender in the rum industry in 1997.
