Created in 2008, Chichibu Japanese single malt whisky has earned widespread recognition among Japanese whisky enthusiasts and connoisseurs worldwide. Produced entirely at the distillery—and increasingly using local barley, peat, and even Japanese oak casks for certain expressions—Chichibu is steadily moving towards becoming the first truly 100% Japanese whisky, driven by the vision of its founder, Ichiro Akuto. Fermented in vats made from mizunara, a highly prized species of Japanese oak, and distilled in small stills, the spirit displays remarkable maturity and complexity, even at a young age. It is a whisky crafted with great precision and elegance. Since 2018, the Chichibu distillery has released an annual blend dedicated to the City of Lights: Chichibu Paris Edition. The 2025 vintage explores the geography and urban identities of Paris and Tokyo, inviting a journey through emblematic districts such as Montmartre and Asakusa, Le Marais and Harajuku, and Les Champs-Élysées and Ginza. Six pop and colourful labels, inspired by Japanese kawaii culture and designed to resemble postage stamps, celebrate travel and cultural exchange between the two capitals. This edition is the result of a complex and eclectic vatting comprising casks of new French oak, sherry-seasoned Spanish oak, French oak previously holding Bordeaux red wine, American oak hogsheads, bourbon barrels, and ex–heavily peated bourbon casks, with whiskies aged between five and fourteen years. Exceptionally well balanced, the aromatic and flavour profile is built on a solid malty backbone and explores earthy, fruity, spicy, indulgent, and infused dimensions with remarkable intensity.
